The Weekly Mix Challenge (powered by 8tracks)
About the Mix Challenge
Music is amazingly powerful. It’s shocking the effect that can be achieved by bringing together a collection of tunes. It can generate emotions, make folks nostalgic, evoke mental imagery… The list goes on. The Weekly Mix Challenge is intended to inspire you to create mixes beyond a random collection of tunes. It can also challenge you to step outside of your comfort zone and craft mixes with music you wouldn’t normally consider. Hopefully it’ll be a fun and educational romp through your music collection.
The Seven Deadly Sins
Crafting mixes based upon a theme is one of those things that DJs and taste mavens are called to do. Alas, one is not always given the choice of which theme they're going to work with. This week's challenge is to craft a mix of 8 tunes that features the mightiest of sins: The Seven Deadly Sins.
For those of you who need a memory kick the sins are (in no particular order): Lust, Gluttony, Envy, Anger, Pride, Greed, and Sloth.

Take the Mix Challenge
Unlike a lot of activities surrounding music mixing this is not a contest. What you get out of it is up to you. Take the challenge. Listen to some of your fellow DJs' mixes. Get involved. It’s all about the music.
The best part? It’s easy to get started.
1. Go to http://8tracks.com and register for an account if you don’t already have one. It’s quick, easy, and free.
2. Follow @Sizzly_one on Twitter. Every Sunday night (EST) I’ll publish this week’s mix challenge. I suppose you could check this page as well…
3. Zip over to http://8tracks.com and craft an 8 song mix that you feel meets the challenge. Tag it with “mixchallenge” and the #mcXXX value you see on the assignment and it’ll automatically get added to the page. We parse 8Tracks every 15 minutes or so.
That’s all there is to it.
Before you go and amaze yourself with your creativity, some suggestions:
First, it’s tempting to craft a mix with more than 8 tunes. Try not to go over that number though. Saying more with less is what it’s all about. Hone your editing skills and discipline by staying with 8. On that
same topic, you can certainly create more than one mix for each challenge but to really get the most out of this project only tag the one that you feel best fits.
This project is all about inspiring you to look at your music collection and build mixes that mean more than a random collection of songs. As my good friends at 8Tracks say, human curated mixes are considerably more interesting than anything an
algorithm can generate.
